Using the Elderberry App to Arrange Home Care Services

Thank you for your interest in the service at this early stage. 

We are currently registering customers (and care providers) for our pilot phase in Halifax.

If you are in Halifax, please register here for the product launch. We’ll set up your account and email you the login information. We may contact you directly to help you engage with the service and to learn from your experiences.

Getting the App and Creating an Account

Android users can join our internal test to get the app. Everything you need is at this link:

New accounts can be made from the start page of the app, but during the pilot phase, we recommend customers register here so we can support your experience more closely.

First time log-in

When you register for our product launch we’ll set up your account and email you the log-in information.

Once you get the app and log-in you will be prompted for your customer details and information about the first Care Receiver you want to book home care for. The app steps you through the process.

Quick Tour

The Elderberry app has three tabs: Home, Book and Account.

Your Home tab lists your bookings and presents messages from Elderberry.  On the Book tab you create new bookings. On the Account tab you add and edit information about your account. Some of this information will be gathered during your registration and onboarding within the app.

Making a booking

1. Choose the Book tab.
2. Choose the date, start time and duration.

Date picker: Click on the date for a full calendar picker, or click the arrows to go day by day.
Time picker: Click to select a time. Currently, we only offer start times on the hour and half hour.
Duration slider: Drag the slider to increase the duration of the booking in half hour increments, up to 12 hours. (Do we have a note about bookings longer than 8 hours?)

Choose a Care Receiver if your account lists more than one.

You can add notes for the Care Provider for the day of the booking. This might be timely needs of the Care Receiver or simply a tip to access the location.

The list of tasks is custom to the Care Receiver and edited via the Accounts Tab.
When you click Search, Elderberry will find the Providers that are available for this booking.

3. Select the Provider(s) and then you can review a summary of the Booking and the total final cost.
4. Continue to Set up Payment.

Our transactions are handled securely by Stripe. You will set up a payment method with Stripe.

A hold will be placed on the funds 48 hours before the booking. Payment is processed when the booking is complete.

The booking will now be listed on your Home tab, and will show when a provider has committed to your booking. You can review the booking details at any time.

Cancelling a booking.

The Cancel option is accessed from the Booking Details. [Details on last-minute cancellations to come.]

Adding and Editing a Care Receiver

When you first log in after your account is created there will be a big button on your home page to Add a Care Receiver. When you finish adding your first Care Receiver the app takes you to the Book tab.

Later you can add or edit Care Receivers from your Account Tab.

Creating your first Care Reciever.

This is the information required to create a Care Receiver

  1. Basic Info: First & Last Name, Phone Number, Gender
  2. Address: Autocomplete address powered by Google.
  3. Photo: From library or camera. This step can be skipped for later.
  4. Spoken Languages (English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese) This list is being revised.
  5. General Notes: What do they need help with? What are their preferences?
  6. Tasks: (Companionship, Housework, Cooking, Toileting, Personal Hygiene) This list is being revised.
  7. Mobility Notes: Any mobility needs? Moving around the house, uneven surfaces or reaching for things?

Your Account Tab

These are the features you can access from your Account tab:

  • Add and edit Care Receivers.
  • Change your customer information, email or phone number.
  • Review your booking history. You can review on-screen and get PDFs of receipts.
  • Log out.
